Malaysian telcos’ Q1 2016 report card: Oh dear, oh my!: Page 8 of 8

The most profitable telco
When it comes to bottomline and profitability, no other Malaysian mobile operator could match Maxis’ earnings in the first quarter 2016.
In fact, it was also the only mobile operator amongst the Big Three to register growth in its first quarter net profit.
While the recent Maxis social media fiasco may see some swings in subscriber base – and certainly did upset some subscribers – its net profit should be able to put a smile on the faces of its investors and shareholders.
During Q1 2016, Maxis was also tops in terms of EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Tax, Depreciation and Amortisation) margin at 56.7%. In contrast, Digi’s EBITDA margin was 43% and Celcom’s normalised EBITDA margin was at 40.7%.
Note that Celcom’s normalised EBITDA margins exclude one-off gains and losses.
