Digital Edge and Peak Energy forge partnership for renewable energy in data centers
- Initial pipeline of 500 MW renewable capacity over next 3 years
- Will target projects in Japan, Korea, Indonesia, India, and the Philippines
In a move towards sustainability, Digital Edge (Singapore) Holdings Pte. Ltd. and Peak Energy Investments Ltd. have announced a strategic collaboration to integrate renewable energy into Digital Edge’s data centre operations across Asia. This partnership aims to leverage Peak Energy’s expertise in renewable energy production to power Digital Edge’s rapidly expanding data centre network.
The agreement outlines a joint effort to develop an initial 500 MW pipeline of renewable energy capacity, catering to both existing and upcoming data centres over the next three years. With a focus on solar, wind, and storage technologies, Peak Energy will target projects in key markets where Digital Edge has a presence, including Japan, Korea, Indonesia, India, and the Philippines. This initiative is expected to contribute significantly to the decarbonisation of up to 1 GW of power and generate over 1,300 GWh annually - equivalent to taking 216,000 cars off the road.
Samuel Lee, CEO at Digital Edge, said, “We are thrilled to partner with Peak Energy to scale our renewable energy usage across the region as we strive to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. To date, we have made substantial progress in leveraging renewable energy across the Digital Edge platform, with our EDGE1 facility in Jakarta becoming the first data centre in Indonesia to run on 100% renewables. Through this partnership with Peak Energy, we will be able to further build on these initiatives and advance our ESG goals.”
Gavin Adda, CEO at Peak Energy, said, “Peak Energy is focused on helping corporates reduce their power costs and carbon footprints in a sustainable way. We look forward to expanding the existing relationship with Digital Edge on this exciting initiative. This partnership will foster the common business objectives of two rapidly growing companies throughout the Asia Pacific region.”
Both Digital Edge and Peak Energy are portfolio companies of Stonepeak, an alternative investment firm with a focus on infrastructure and real assets, particularly in data centres and renewable energy.
