SNS Network unleashes Atom-powered Joi tablet and phone

SNS Network Sdn Bhd has introduced the Joi 7 Lite tablet and Joi Phone 5 smartphone, both based on the Intel Atom x3 processor series.

The Joi 7 Lite tablet and Joi Phone 5 smartphone are powered by the Intel Atom x3-C3130, runs on Android 4.4 and comes with 8GB of storage expandable up to 32GB, the company said in a statement.

SNS Network had earlier this year announced the addition of other devices to its lineup of Joi tablets including the Joi 7, Joi 8i with 3G, and Joi 10 Flip.

“We have certainly come a long way since the release of our very first Intel-powered Windows tablet late last year,” said SNS Network managing director Ko Yun Hung.

“Thanks to the very encouraging response we’ve received from our consumers, we have worked really hard to expand our family of mobile offerings under the Joi brand name,” he added, without disclosing sales figures.

According to Intel Malaysia and Singapore country manager Sumner Lemon, the Intel Atom x3 processor that powers the new Joi devices was developed by Intel’s team in Singapore.

“Development of the Atom x3 started around two years ago, with the team in Singapore setting out to build a new mobile processor aimed at cost-effective devices.

“The result is an Intel processor designed in South-East Asia, for South-East Asia.

“We are committed to meeting the continued demand for mobile devices here in Malaysia and look forward to supporting our customers, including SNS Network, as they roll out high quality, affordable devices that do not compromise on performance,” Lemon added.

The Joi Lite 7 and Joi Phone 5 are available now for RM299 and RM399 [RM1 = US$0.26] respectively (inclusive of GST) at major Aeon departmental stores, a reseller network spanning more than 50 stores nationwide, as well as online channels including Gloo.com.my, Lazada.com.my, and Lelong.com.my.
