Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Pro League Malaysia and Singapore kicks off its fifth season

The fifth Regular Season of Malaysia and Singapore’s Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) Professional League will be kicking off on 29th February 2020. Sponsored by Malaysian digital telco Yoodo, the season will last six weeks until 5 April 2020, with a US$100,000 (RM418,700) prize pool that 10 of Malaysia and Singapore’s best team will battle it out for.

The season follows the qualifying rounds for both countries that concluded on 16 February, with Malaysia’s Makan Cendol and Orange Esports, alongside Singapore’s Notorious Villains, Resurgence and Siren Esports being the teams who earned a spot to compete.

They join the directly-invited teams (Axis Esports, Geek Fam, Team Bosskurr, and Todak from Malaysia; and EVOS SG from Singapore) in the six-week battle for points, where the top eight teams will progress to the final playoffs.

Almost half of the tournament’s prize pool of US$47,900 (RM200,900) will be up for grabs in the form of weekly incentives and win bonuses during the season, while the other half is meant for the playoffs scheduled for the 18 and 19 April 2020.

Other goodies

Moonton, the developer and publisher of MLBB, also announced an all-new web series that will debut on 5 March 2020, in conjunction with the fifth Regular Season. Called “Bangkit”, the seven-episode series is produced in collaboration with eGG Network, and will tell the story of a professional MLBB player and their highs and lows in the professional esports scene.

The series is also said to address the issue of toxicity in the gaming world, and will “highlight the importance of family values, and showcase the grit and determination in the pursuit of success.”

Says Moonton’s Esports Manager Jayden Wei: “Building off the incredible response to our first web series Mata Kerbau, which we launched during MPL-MY/SG Season 2 back in September 2018, we wanted to bring a new story to fans in Malaysia who inspire us every day with their passion for the game. Additionally, we wanted to shine the light on some issues and values in the gaming world today. We don’t want to spoil it, so be sure to tune in and enjoy it for yourself.”

The “Bangkit” web series will premiere at 6pm 5 March on the MLBB Facebook page and YouTube channel with one episode launched every week for six weeks. The final episode will be screened during the playoffs. Fans can also tune in to eGG Network’s channel (Astro CH800) to watch it on TV.

This season will also see a content series called MPL Spotlight, a weekly talk show featuring leading MLBB analysts and pundits where key matches of the season will be discussed and broken down for fans. The show will be aired from 26 February 2020 at 12pm on eGG Network’s channel (Astro CH800) and MLBB’s Facebook page, with an episode airing every week until 8 April 2020.
