XIAOMI’S Mi Mix line of smartphones tend to be very experimental and the Mi Mix 3 is shaping up to be its most radical flagship device yet. On Oct 30, Xiaomi previewed the device ahead its debut in Malaysia come December 2018.
The Mi Mix 3 has a massive 6.39-inch AMOLED Full HD+ (2,340 x 1,080 resolution) display that covers 93% of its body, shaving off its chin without having to include a notch. This is helped by the fact that it has a magnetic slider that reveals the Mi Mix 3’s two front-facing cameras: a 24-Megapixel primary camera and a secondary 2-Megapixel camera.
Naturally, there are AI beauty features to help you snap the best possible selfie with a nice blurred background. The front cameras can also perform face unlock, although whether it is as secure as its rear fingerprint unlock, remains to be seen.
The Mi Mix 3 includes dual 12-Megapixel rear cameras, one wide-angle and the other telephoto possessing f/1.8 and f/2.4 apertures respectively. Xiaomi has touted the camera’s slow-motion video capabilities which are said to capture footage at 960 frames per second.
Xiaomi’s AI smarts are also present in the rear camera, helping it in automatically detecting scenes. It even adds background music to photos.
The phone comes with a top-of-the-line Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor and it offers three variations: either a 6GB or 8GB RAM model with 128GB of internal storage or the top-end model with 8GB and 256GB of storage.
Even crazier, Xiaomi has a special Palace Museum edition that is currently known to be only available to China. It has a whopping 10GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. There is no word if that model is actually coming to Malaysia and other international markets.
It will come in three colours: onyx black, jade green and sapphire blue.
As expected, Xiaomi’s Mi Mix phones tend to be priced higher than its other line of phones The base model will cost you US$475 (RM1,985).
No official price has been confirmed for the Mi Mix 3 though Xiaomi did state that the previous model, the Mi Mix 2S’s retail price will be revised from US$478 (RM1,999) to US$430 (RM1,799).
