PLAYSTATION fans will be pleased to know that they can get their hands on the latest upcoming games from Sony before they are even released.
Tucked away in the corner of the Sunway Pyramid shopping mall is the first ever Play Everything Lounge by PlayStation in Southeast Asia.
Gamers need not worry about missing out on the excitement as Sony Interactive Entertainment Hong Kong Limited Singapore Branch (SIES) assured us that the lounge will run from Nov 23, 2018 all the way until Feb 17, 2019, giving them plenty of time to come and revisit it.
“We are honoured that our mall has remained a mall-of-choice for experiences. The partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment signifies a true collaborative curation by two of the leading names of the industry. It is our privilege to work with a world-renowned gaming giant to bring another dimension of experiences for our shoppers. It is important for malls to go beyond conventions to stay relevant,” said Sunway Malls and Theme Parks chief executive officer HC Chan.
SIES Southeast Asia regional head Hidetoshi Takigawa added that the company’s PlayStation business in Malaysia has grown tremendously over the past few years and the partnership with Sunway Pyramid is a testament to their commitment in reaching out and engaging with their PlayStation fans.
Sony added that it has plans to host PlayStation-related activities such as gaming tournaments, community engagement activities and unreleased game trials in the space.
Malaysia continues to be the focal point for Sony’s firsts in the region as Kuala Lumpur was also chosen to host Southeast Asia’s first PlayStation Experience in 2017. The annual fan event for Southeast Asia was held in Bangkok, Thailand this year and received a thunderous response with sold out tickets.
During the lounge’s first weekend from Nov 23 to No 25, visitors were the first in Malaysia to play a demo of the upcoming Square Enix game, Kingdom Hearts III. The popular crossover game with Disney puts players back in the shoes of protagonist Sora as he races across a myriad Disney themed worlds to fight evil.
There is even a virtual reality area where visitors can try Sony’s PlayStation VR gaming system for the PlayStation 4.
Members of the media were specially treated to a demo of the upcoming PlayStation 4 action game Sekiro Shadows Die Twice. From Digital News Asia’s time with the game, Sekiro’s fast and fluid gameplay calls back the classic Japanese stealth games like Tenchu and mixes it up with a healthy dose of Dark Souls.
Apart from that, there were also demo stations that showed the soon-to-be-launched PlayStation Classic. The miniaturised version of Sony’s first home console is as tiny as it is cute.
Containing 20 classic games from the first PlayStation’s era that include Tekken 3, Ridge Racer Type 4 IV, Syphon Filter, Final Fantasy VII and more, it will be available starting Dec 3 for a retail price of (US$102) RM429.
