The Samsung Galaxy A72 and A52 land on March 26

  • The Galaxy A72 and A52 are largely similar; the former has a telephoto lens, larger battery
  • A 5G device under the series would be the A32 5G

The Samsung Galaxy A72 and A52 land on March 26SAMSUNG’s latest line of mid-range smartphones, the Galaxy A72 and A52, will be available in Malaysia from March 26 onwards.

Announced earlier this month, the Galaxy A72 and A52 serve as more accessible entries into the Samsung Galaxy ecosystem, Samsung said in a statement.

Although categorised at mid-range, they’re not slouches in terms of features and performances. Both devices are fairly similar, though the more premium A72 gets a few extra perks.

Both smartphones feature a quad-camera setup comprising a 64MP main shooter with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 12MP ultra-wide lens and a 5MP macro camera. The A52 gets a 5MP depth sensor taking up the fourth slot. The A72 gets an 8MP 3x telephoto lens.

In any case, you get to shoot 4K videos on both devices, while the OIS helps with shooting dynamic moving objects as well as clearer night shots.

Both devices also get Super AMOLED 90Hz displays, though the A72 is a little larger at 6.7-inch compared to the A52’s 6.5-inch screen. They both have resolutions of 1080P+ and feature the same octa-core processor.

This is coupled with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of ROM. Unlike the Galaxy S21 Ultra, the memory of both devices can be expandable to 1TB via microSD.

Battery capacity is another area where both devices differ. The A52 sports a 4,500mAh battery, while the A72 carries a larger one at 5,000mAh. Both, however, are water and dust resistant with an IP67 rating, and they feature stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos.

It’s worth noting that both devices are not 5G devices. For that, you might want to check out the Galaxy A32 5G, the more affordable little brother of the group. This smartphone features a 6.5-inch display at 720p resolution, and a quad-camera setup comprising a 48MP main shooter, 8MP ultra-wide lens, 2MP depth camera and a 5MP macro snapper.

Powering the device is a 5,000mAH battery, which sits with the octa-core processor and 8GB+128GB memory configuration (expandable to 1TB via microSD).

The Samsung Galaxy A32 5G prices at US$290 (RM1,199). The A32 also comes in a non-5G variant, which makes up for its lack of 5G connectivity with a higher-resolution (albeit a little smaller) Super AMOLED display and a 64MP main shooter as opposed to a 48MP one. It prices at US$266 (RM1,099).

As for the Galaxy A72 and A52, they retail for RM1,899 and RM1,499 respectively. If you purchase these devices from March 26 to April 30, you’ll receive a complimentary Clear Standing Cover or Soft Clear Cover. Consumers can also trade-in their old or existing smartphones for a trade-in offer.
