Morten Karlsen Sørby appointed new Digi chairman

DIGI.COM Bhd and its subsidiary Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd have announced the appointment of Morten Karlsen Sørby (pic) as chairman of the board at Digi.
His appointment is effective immediately, and he succeeds Sigve Brekke who assumed the position of president and chief executive officer of Telenor Group earlier this week, the company said in a statement.
“I am confident that Morten [Sørby] will put his vast industry knowledge and operational experience to work as a chairman in guiding the company’s continued growth journey. He already knows Digi well after more than two years as a director on the company’s board,” said Brekke.
Sørby is a Telenor executive vice president and head of its Asia region, as well as a member of its group executive management team.
A Norwegian national, he joined Telenor in 1993 and has held a number of senior positions. In his capacity as executive vice president, he served as head of the Norwegian Market from 2003 to 2005, head of Nordic Operations from 2005 to 2009, executive vice president and head of Corporate Development from 2009 to 2011, and head of Strategy and Regulatory Affairs from 2011 to 2013.
He was chief executive officer of Uninor in India in 2014.
“[Digi] has solid fundamentals, strong growth potential and a capable leadership team,” said Sørby.
“I look forward to working with the executive team and the board to keep the growth momentum,” he added.
Sørby was appointed a director of Digi in March 2013. He holds a Master of Science in Business Administration from the University of Karlstad, and has completed additional education from IMD in Switzerland.
