Hong Leong bags best retail payment project award at Asian Banker event

THE Asian Banker has awarded Hong Leong Bank Berhad (HLBB) and its information technology (IT) partner Silverlake Mobility Ecosystem Sdn Bhd the Best Retail Payment Project Award at the Asian Banker Technology Implementation Awards 2015.

The winning project has the unwieldy tag of ‘Hong Leong Connect Mobile Banking Re-Platform for Extension of Payment Express (PEx) Services.’

It expands mobile banking services to HLBB customers and increases the take-up of digital payments as an alternative to cash, the bank said in a statement.

The solution also allows HLBB to standardise its mobile banking platform across its markets in Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Cambodia and Hong Kong, and is able to simplify and accelerate the delivery of multi-dimensional mobility services to customers, HLBB said.

It not only expanded transactional banking services to balance checking, fund transfers, and bills payment, but also to multi-channel collection as well as retail payments to merchants.

“The move to expand our mobile banking services forms part of HLBB’s digital banking journey,” said Galvin Yeo, HLBB general manager of Digital Innovation & Transactional Banking – Retail.

“[This award] is testament to our vision of promoting innovation … to provide a seamless customer experience,” he said after receiving the award at a ceremony in Hong Kong held in conjunction with the recent Asian Banker Summit 2015.

The Asian Banker Technology Implementation Awards recognise leadership in the implementation of technology projects in a wide variety of areas. This year, the awards garnered participation from 65 banks across Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa, which submitted over 150 project details.
