Celcom is the smallest among the Big Three incumbents
With the ‘Big Three’ incumbents having released their numbers, it is now official that Celcom has the smallest subscriber base amongst them.
The good news is that it still is more than double of the size of U Mobile Sdn Bhd’s subscriber base.
Celcom ended the quarter with 12.07 million subscribers, representing a net reduction of 175,000. Its first quarter subscriber base comprised 9.23 million prepaid users and 2.84 million postpaid users.
The result isn’t a big surprise – after all, Digital News Asia (DNA) reported last week that Celcom is not likely to capture the pole position in terms of overall subscriber base, even though it was about 90,000 subscribers away from Digi.Com Bhd based on Celcom’s Q4 2015 numbers.
The last time the company had fewer than 12.07 million subscribers was in 2012, when it ended the second quarter with 12.03 million subscribers.
This also means that Digi is officially the largest mobile operator in the country in terms of subscriber base, followed closely by none other than Maxis Bhd.
