MOSTI Minister Khairy Jamaludin in a conversation with the 36 winners of MYHackathon 2020 winners.

A total of 36 winning teams of MYHackathon 2020 showcased their digital solutions on an interactive online finale & showcase broadcast that celebrated the essence of the program – digitalization.

These solutions were developed to improve the delivery of key public services to the Rakyat, involving various themes encompassing more than 100 problem statements identified from all levels of the Government from federal to state and local/district areas.

Attended by Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, this virtual event was separated into Main Hall and Showcase Hall, with the audience able to view keynote sessions, expert panel discussions, and short interviews as well as get access to MYHackathon 2020 ecosystem including the winners, coaches, partners, funders, and judges.

The interviews and panel discussions revolved around the winning solutions, technology, innovation and digital transformation, and were grouped under the theme of “National Innovation”. As a bonus, the winners were also allowed to pitch their ideas to a group of investors curated for the event.

According to Khairy, his ministry believes that the most relevant and effective approach to alleviating the burden of the rakyat is through the use of technology and digitization in the civil service.

"Through MYHackathon 2020, we encourage the growth and development of the nation's techpreneurs, especially among the youth. This will reduce dependence on foreign technology and labor, in line with the National Policy on Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTIN) 2021-2030 and 10-10 Framework of Science, Technology, Innovation and Economy Malaysia (MySTIE) which aims to intensify the development and usage of technology locally, to transform the country from technology users to technology developers.”

"I deem such efforts to be very critical now when the country is facing Covid-19. The controlled physical movement to prevent the spread of this pandemic has forced us to conduct various affairs and transactions online. We can no longer state those measures as ‘new norms’, instead we need to recognise and embed them as the ‘new future’, far beyond the response to Covid-19," he adds.

MYHackathon 2020 was open for all innovators, software engineers, subject matter experts, as well as concerned Malaysians to participate.

An initiative of the National Economic Recovery Plan (PENJANA) under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Mosti), it consisted of six rounds driven by specific themes and matching sets of problem statements respectively to ensure the widest variety of problem statements for maximum value.

Led by Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd (Cradle) as the main secretariat, it is supported by Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre (MaGIC), Malaysian Administrative Modernisation & Management Planning Unit (MAMPU), UniMAKER, Telekom Malaysia and local state partners.

UniMAKER (University Makers) – is an innovation competition run by the Ministry of Education Malaysia, as a platform to nurture & cultivate Maker's Movement in Malaysia.
