Sunway Innovation Labs (iLabs) alongside Gobi Partners have kicked off the pre-accelerator phase of the Sunway iLabs Super Accelerator programme.
A total of 28 startups have been chosen to participate in the one-month pre-accelerator, based on their growth potential, market-readiness and synergies with Sunway Group, with sustainability as an overarching factor. All but four were Malaysian based, with three from Singapore and one from Indonesia.
The Sunway iLabs Super Accelerator is a 1 + 3 month accelerator programme for startups to test, validate and scale their businesses. In its fourth cohort, Sunway iLabs seeks startups that are building innovative solutions in one of the six key verticals, namely – Edutech, Smart Cities, Digital Health, Retailtech, Agrifoodtech and Fintech. There were over 100 applicants from different countries across Southeast Asia.
“We believe giving the right platform to entrepreneurs to pilot solutions and gain user feedback is crucial for startups at every stage. We are excited to kick-off the pre-accelerator to match the selected startups to Sunway’s business units. This is the part of the programme where the rubber meets the road and where we get a better understanding of how far these startups could really go,” said Matt van Leeuwen, Chief Innovation Officer of Sunway Group.
"We received over 100 applications and the deliberation process was full of tough choices to pick the top 28 for the pre-accelerator. We were also impressed with the diversity of startups that applied to develop their innovative technology and sustainable solutions within the Sunway ecosystem," said Dr Melissa Foo (pic, left), Head of Sunway iLabs Ventures.
Startups in this cohort include Global Cerah, Life Origin, Solnovation (AgroDoctors), BAKU, SuperMD, Tongle Enterprise, Lumirous, clickncare, HeyHi, Joyfolk, Evetag Learn, Internspoon, Polymath Marketing, Swipey, Airi Global, IdThrivo Technology, Jeong Family, Hauz, YesHello (Narrative Consulting Plt), Beebag, Shop Hubby, Re:Crave, Seashore Networks, ServeDeck Innovation, SmartClean Technologies, FusionQB, Buddey Technology and LinkUp Smart Solutions.
Over the next one month, the startups will go through workshops with industry leaders such as Alevate and LAW Partnership, one-to-one mentorships with prominent individuals, and get connected with the wider Sunway ecosystem. Shortlisted startups will continue with the 3-month accelerator to leverage on the Sunway ecosystem as a testbed to design and launch their pilot project. They will also have the opportunity to pitch to notable partners and venture capital firms such as Gobi Partners, Orbit Malaysia, SunSEA Capital, and many others during the demo day at the end of the programme.
“A good thing that has come out of this pandemic is that most businesses have become more agile and innovative in their offerings to their customers. We expect nothing less from this year’s chosen Accelerator startups and we are incredibly excited to see their innovative offerings, especially when it comes to new areas of technology,” said Jamaludin Bujang (pic, right), Managing Director of Gobi Partners.
Throughout the programme, participants will get to enjoy perks from Sunway iLabs partners, such as Amazon Web Services, AdEasy, Bawatana, Beamstart, Alliance Bank BizSmart Solution, HubSpot for startups, Rtist, Stripe, Vase.ai, Xero, and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).
