US-based payments technology and services solutions provider First Data and Australian-founded e-commerce company eWay have announced an alliance that they said would enable more Australian businesses to expand into Asia’s rapidly growing e-commerce markets.
The alliance establishes First Data Merchant Solutions (FDMS), First Data’s direct-to-market merchant-acquiring business, as a trusted payments provider to eWay’s merchant network, the two said in a joint statement.
With First Data’s commitment to help its clients grow their businesses, the collaboration supports Australian businesses in their efforts to expand their geographical footprint and establish their e-commerce capabilities in Asia, they claimed.
Marc Mathenz, senior vice president and head of First Data Asia Pacific, said that First Data is pleased to be able to extend its strong existing relationship with eWay to help their customers tap into the booming Asian e-commerce market.
“Asia is one of the world’s fastest growing markets for e-commerce revenues, with e-commerce spending in the region set to surpass half a trillion dollars (US$525.5 billion) by the end of this year.
“This partnership combines First Data’s innovative solutions and our longstanding experience in Asia Pacific, with eWay’s strengths in fraud prevention, safety and security to bring full service acquiring and processing capabilities for local businesses looking to gain access to Asia.
“First Data has been working with eWay for more than 10 years in Australia, processing more than US$10 billion worth of transactions, and this new phase of our partnership will enable eWay and other Australian businesses to grow in this exciting region,” he added.
First Data has 24,000 employee-owners and operations in 35 countries, with customers in nearly 70 countries for its secure payment technology and services.
“At eWay, we are focused on optimising our payments solutions for merchants to offer them real value in their day-to-day e-commerce transactions,” said eWay founder and chief executive Matt Bullock.
“First Data Merchant Solutions has a proven track record of providing innovative solutions, a secure and stable platform and a strong presence in the Asia Pacific region,” he added.
