- 50% of users from Jakarta, but network spreading to other cities
INDONESIA’S Jomblo.com singles’ social network said it has gained more than 20.000 users since its official launch on Feb 6. The network has actually been accessible since September 2013, having garnered 9.000 followers previously, the Jakarta-based startup said in a statement.
“We are most delighted to see the enthusiasm shown towards Jomblo.com and we hope that we can play a part in developing the potential of Indonesian technology startups.” said Darrick Rochili, cofounder and managing partner.
“Indonesians have been known as social media maniacs, but so far they are mostly using foreign social networks.
“Our case is evidence that we have the ability to also create something unique and that youth in Indonesia are also enthusiastic about using a locally-developed Indonesian social network,” he added.
About half of Jomblo.com's users are still currently focused in Jakarta, but the network said it has begun to spread to other cities such as Surabaya with 10% of total users, Bandung and Yogyakarta each with 7%, Medan (5%) and Semarang (2,5%), with the rest spread around other regions in Indonesia.
Jomblo.com was launched as a social network created by Indonesians for Indonesians, and designed to connect jomblo (the Indonesian term for singles) with individuals, activities or communities from various backgrounds with similar passion and interests, Jomblo.com said.
The portal is currently implementing new features such as friend suggestions based on profile/ interest matching, photo-based friend searches, and is even developing a mobile app for the Android platform.
