Minimises possible downtime at point of sale caused by security breaches or threats
CUSCAPI Bhd, which specialises in business management solutions for the food and beverage (F&B) industry, has developed a customised security solution known as Cuscapi Managed Security Suite (CMSS).
CMSS, developed in collaboration with US-based Symantec Corp, would help minimise downtime of Cuscapi’s Transight point-of-sale (POS) machines, the company said in a statement.
With this security measure, F&B operators can be assured that only certified applications are allowed to operate within the Transight POS environment. This minimises possible situations of a downtime at the point of sale resulting from security breaches or threats.
A downtime in POS would have a negative impact on the operation, resulting in loss of sales and even data which is crucial in the resource planning for any F&B business, Cuscapi said.
CMSS operates on a platform that is constantly updated with a list of potential security risks. This added element means it is able to detect new threats that are in conflict with the POS environment and prompt immediate remedy without resulting in system intrusion and hence, downtime.
“One of the key features of CMSS is the ability of the service provider to manage the security software from a remote terminal,” said Cuscapi chief operating officer Eugene Ng (pic).
“This enables Cuscapi to launch CMSS as a managed service, and currently there are only a few vendors in the market that provide this certified security solution on a managed service basis,” he claimed.
CMSS is supported by the Symantec Endpoint Protection and Symantec Data Center Security platforms.
Symantec Endpoint Security is built on multiple layers of protection, including Symantec’s Insight and Sonar, both of which provide protection against new and unknown threats.
Symantec Data Center Security provides a comprehensive and stringent set of controls for the server environment to help meet an organisation’s security and compliance requirements, Cuscapi said.
“Today’s complex threat landscape calls for more robust control and policies at the various incursion points, whether at the endpoint or the server,” said Nigel Tan, director of Systems Engineering at Symantec Malaysia.
“Backed by Symantec’s Global Intelligence Network, Symantec’s solutions empowers Cuscapi’s CMSS customers to make security responsive to their IT environments and protect their most valuable information assets,” he added.
Cuscapi said its Transight POS has been deployed by several F&B operators locally as well as abroad. The POS solution is a front-end point-of-sale software solution designed to capture orders with accuracy and speed.
It is one of the key modules of the Transight enterprise solution developed by Cuscapi to help F&B operators enhance their operations efficiency.
The Transight enterprise solution is a set of F&B business management solutions designed for small players to large-scale multinational enterprises spanning multiple properties across a geographically diverse spectrum, the company claimed.
Cuscapi’s POS clients include global F&B brands such as Starbucks, KFC, Pizza Hut, A&W, Nando’s and Marry Brown. In Asia, its clients include BreadTalk, Fish & Co, Jollibee, Auntie Aunt’s, Beard Papa’s, KyoChon 1991, J.CO, TGIF and Ganso.
