DNA Disrupt #8: Media Relations 101

  • Panel discussion on rules of engagement when dealing with the press
  • DNA in the hot seat; session to be moderated by BFM’s Freda Liu

DNA Disrupt #8: Media Relations 101AS a budding startup, sooner or later, you’ll need to move from pitching to venture capitalists and angel investors, to pitching to journalists.

And as any veteran entrepreneur who’s been on the mission to drum up publicity can tell you, journalists are a whole different breed. Experiences with the media can often be frustrating, abrupt or just plain bewildering.

That lack of awareness within new companies when it comes to dealing with journalists and the media forms the theme for this month’s Digital News Asia (DNA) Disrupt panel discussion.

Titled ‘Rules of Engagement: Media Relations 101,’ DNA is taking on this topic to help the startup ecosystem here in Malaysia.

Ever wondered what’s the best way to pitch your startup to the press? Why are some journalists interested but others are not? And why are editors always so grumpy on the phone? [Especially the DNA executive editor – The DNA executive editor].

We hope to answer these burning questions and more at this very special panel discussion, which will see me and my colleague Edwin Yapp sharing our insights on the process.

Freda Liu, host and producer with business radio station BFM and who boasts not just experience in broadcast journalism but has also served in the corporate communications departments of large technology multinationals such as IBM, will moderate the panel.

If you are an entrepreneur seeking more information about media relations or a public relations practitioner looking for deeper insight into how to best pitch relevant stories, this is one Disrupt you should not miss!

So join us for a very lively and revealing discussion about the ins and outs of dealing with the media fraternity come Wednesday, June 19.

This month, Disrupt will be hosted at Fluent Space in Kelana Jaya and will kick off at the usual time of 5:30pm.

Admission is free but seats are limited so be sure to RSVP via this link: http://www.eventbrite.com/event/6083316363
