World AI Conference 2021 brings AI to the fore on July 8

THE inaugural World AI Conference 2021 South East Asia (WAIC), part of the World AI Conference Shanghai 2021, opens virtually on July 8 and is set to bring insights into exciting technologies and innovations that will move the region forward.
Co-organised by Skymind Holdings Berhad, the Southeast Asia arm of Skymind Global, the conference will see stakeholders from the region comprising academia, government and the private sector convene to explore technology’s role in the new global era and how its transformational potential can be deployed to create a better future for all, Skymind said in a statement.
WAIC is aimed at highlighting thought-provoking issues in sessions with topics such as “Winning the war in the quest for elusive AI Talent,” where the focus is on the outlook for AI talent in the region, and how industry-academia strategies needs to be relooked, it said.
Other sessions will include a discourse on the required synergies between public-private sectors, answering the question of what it takes to bring the bold vision of innovation driven economy powered by AI, to reality, it added.
Addtionally, a specific focus will be on a special economic zone for innovation, as a potential nucleus of AI Innovation, Skymind said.
Amongst the speakers at the event are Mustapa Mohamed, minister at prime minister’s department; chief minister of Johor, Hasni Mohammad; and chairman of Johor investment, entrepreneurial development, cooperative and human resource committee, Mohd Izhar Ahmad.
Also present are Hong Leong Group chief digital and innovation officer, Benjamin Keller; Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) vice chancellor Prof Faisal Rafiq; Mahamd Adikan, chief information officer (CIO) of Telekom Malaysia; Sivan Umapathy, chief innovation officer of Skymind Eduardo Gonzalez; and vice president of intelligent powertrain, Enovate Jason Jian.
WAIC has over the years gathered many influential scientists, entrepreneurs, officials from government and international organisations and featured speakers such as founder and chief executive officer of Telsla Elon Musk; founder of Alibaba Jack Ma; and co-founder, chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of Baidu Robin Li, Skymind said.
