Carsome announces the appointment of Miguel Fernandez as its CFO

Southeast Asia’s largest integrated car e-Commerce platform Carsome Group Inc., has appointed Miguel Fernandez (pic) as its group CFO, effective from 1 November 2023. He will report directly to Carsome’s chairman and group CEO, Eric Cheng.

He succeeds Juliet Zhu, who will remain in her role as group president.

Miguel's background encompasses a wide range of industries, including fintech, e-commerce, manufacturing, distribution, private equity, and financial services, spanning public, private, and venture capital-funded firms. He has held senior financial leadership roles at Fortune 100 companies such as Amazon, Dell, and Coupang, with nearly seven years of experience in the Asia Pacific region. Before joining Carsome, he was the group CFO at Maya, a KKR and Tencent-backed fintech in the Philippines. Prior to Maya, he served as the CFO at Coupang Fulfillment Services, Coupang’s largest subsidiary.

Miguel is recognised for his business and financial acumen, having held significant financial roles, including head of Commercial and Operations Finance in renowned global companies. His expertise in operations and supply chain logistics complements his technology background.

Cheng, speaking on behalf of Carsome’s Board of Directors, expressed a warm welcome to Miguel, acknowledging his remarkable track record and extensive global experience, particularly within the e-commerce industry. He emphasised the substantial contributions expected from Miguel's financial, strategic, and operational strengths.

He further highlighted Miguel's background, strategic acumen, and financial leadership experience, emphasising his invaluable addition to the team as they approach 2024, a year of accelerated profitable growth for Carsome.

“We would also like to thank Juliet Zhu who took on the role of CFO in January 2020 and has played an instrumental role in Carsome’s growth journey for the past four years. We will continue working closely with her to drive growth and synergy creation across Carsome’s businesses.”

Commenting on his appointment, Miguel said, “Carsome’s commitment to innovation in elevating the customer and car ownership experience within Southeast Asia’s used car industry has unlocked significant value creation potential. I look forward to contributing to the firm’s financial strategy, operational excellence, and overall success in delivering the next normal of digitized car ownership in this region.”

Miguel holds a Bachelor of Science in International Business and Logistics from Regis University, where he graduated with Magna Cum Laude Honors. Additionally, he completed an MBA in Finance and Information Systems from St. Edward's University.
