TELEKOM Malaysia Bhd (TM), through its wholly-owned subsidiary Intelsec Sdn Bhd, has signed an agreement with UEM Sunrise Bhd, through its wholly-owned subsidiary UEM Land Bhd, and Iskandar Innovations Sdn Bhd for the establishment of a joint venture company that will offer and operate smart services in Nusajaya.

Iskandar Innovations is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Iskandar Investment Bhd (IIB).

The joint venture is one of the areas that have been identified in a collaboration agreement signed between TM, UEM Sunrise and IIB in 2012 for the development and management of a ‘smart and connected Nusajaya,’ TM said in a statement.

Nusajaya is located within the southern development hub of Iskandar Malaysia in the state of Johor.

The joint venture company, in which TM will be the majority shareholder, will operate as a managed services company. It will design and build a smart city infrastructure as well as provide smart building and smart city services for Nusajaya, including security services, energy and facility management.

“We are happy and excited to establish yet-another collaboration with UEM Sunrise and IIB for the provision of smart services in Nusajaya,” said TM group chief executive officer Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa.

“By leveraging on our extensive high-speed converged network infrastructure – whether in the last mile, national backhaul or global reach via our international links – and our expertise in unified communications, coupled with our proven ICT managed services capabilities and experiences, we are set to elevate Nusajaya into one of the attractive investment destinations in the region.

“We are committed to ensuring the success of this aspiration whilst fulfilling the increasingly sophisticated demand of multinational corporations and enterprise customers operating in Nusajaya,” he added.

TM made its high-speed broadband (HSBB) service UniFi available in Nusajaya since July 2010, covering more than 2,200 premises passed. UniFi is currently available at 10 exchange areas in Johor covering close to 106,000 premises passed.

To date, there are over 46,000 UniFi customers in Johor, TM said.

In addition, the company brought UniFi to four of the five flagship zones in Iskandar Malaysia.

TM said it continues to support the development of Nusajaya by providing state-of-the-art technology and services capitalising on its domestic network infrastructure connectivity and global reach.

“This signing paves way for a digital ecosystem towards realising our vision of a Smart and Connected Nusajaya, which is envisioned to be one of the leading modern living communities with world-class telecommunications and ICT services,” said UEM Sunrise executive director Izzaddin Idris.

“A Smart and Connected Nusajaya Master Plan has been established which aims to develop Nusajaya into one of the world’s leading interconnected smart communities, creating a seamless experience for residents, businesses, and visitors,” he added.
