Intel Malaysia launches cloud based system to restore hands-on lab experience for uni students

• Collaborates with TalentCorp and CREST for its Systems Cloud for University (SC4U)
• Roll-out will tap CREST’s TheGreatLab platform which hosts educators, students

Intel Malaysia in collaboration with Talent Corporation Malaysia Bhd (TalentCorp) and CREST announced a new initiative last week to help university students in Malaysia get a step closer to their normal learning experience through the launch of Systems Cloud for University, or SC4U.

More than 100 participants from the university and academia community attended the event which was launched by M. Saravanan, Minister of Human Resources who hailed the initiative as, “a great example of industry and academia working together to improve the competencies, skills and knowledge of Malaysia’s talent pool.”

Eric Chan (pic), vice president of Internet of Things Group, Intel, Jaffri Ibrahim, CEO of CREST and Thomas Mathew, Group CEO of TalentCorp were also present.

The main objective of SC4U program is to restore the hands-on learning experience for university students where Intel has invested in a Systems cloud which consists of board combinations, systems and tools that will be made available at no cost through the cloud for students and lecturers to resume lab classes which were largely missed due to the pandemic. 

TalentCorp will be taking the role of bridging the talent, particularly graduates, to utilise the same infrastructure to improve the employability of graduates, while CREST will help to manage the engagement with universities. Intel’s goal is to contribute what it can to help the learning experience of students, which has been largely deprived due to the pandemic.

“To be realistic, we won’t be able to completely replace what the physical lab experiences can provide, but we strive to restore 80% of the hands-on learning experience through the SC4U offering,” Eric says.

“At CREST, we believe in the spirit of collaboration and strive to work with the industry and academia to grow a pool of domain experts as well as equip students with knowledge and skills for the future of work. We are honoured to partner with Intel for the roll-out of the program through the CREST TheGreatLab (TGL) platform which hosts a network of educators and students,” Jaffri (pic) adds.

SC4U originated from Intel’s effort to provide better access and service, and support experience to a larger base of customers which was well received by Intel customers. Intel invested further in the system infrastructure to offer the services to universities and help bridge the learning gap in Malaysian universities caused by the pandemic.

Intel, CREST and TalentCorp have declared that they will collaborate closely to enable this new method of teaching and learning, in line with the ‘new norm’ in education. This being early days, Intel has no plans to scale this platform to other countries.
