THE organizers of the annual Sparxup event in Jakarta announced that this year’s technology conference, startup competition and hackathon combo kicks off on Oct 3.
Sparxup is an initiative by three entities – media companies DailySocial and Kompas.com, and brand and marketing communications company SemutApi -- as a means to contribute and grow Indonesia's appetite for tech, they said in a statement.
With the first event in 2010, Sparxup winners are currently Indonesia's hottest startups, while the tech conference brought Indonesia under the spotlight for international attention from investors, entrepreneurs and multinational tech companies.
"Promoting Indonesia's tech startup scene as always been our main objective with Sparxup, as well as bringing international knowledge to local entrepreneurs," said Rama Mamuaya, Sparxup 2012 chairman and founder of DailySocial.
The chain of events starts Oct 3 for the all-coder all-day hackathon session, continued with Demo Day for startup finalists and hackathon participants. The Demo Day session will be open for public or investors who would like to see handpicked Sparxup startup finalists and hackers firsthand.
The Sparxup Conference and ‘Awarding Night, on Oct 5 will feature international speakers from Foursquare, Evernote, Netprice Japan and Microsoft.
Besides international speakers, local entrepreneurs such as Hendrik Tio of Bhinneka.com, Indonesia's most successful online store, as well as Ferry Tenka from Groupon Indonesia will share their thoughts about Indonesia's tech scene together with other speakers from Yahoo! Indonesia, music startup Ohd.io, and cloud-provider company Infinys.
