The Ryzen 5000-powered, Acer Nitro 5 gaming laptop reaches Malaysia

• Combines top-end AMD Ryzen 9 5900 HX processor, RTX 3080 GPU
• New Nitro 5 also features 165Hz display, two slots for M.2 PCIe

ACER Malaysia has introduced the face-lifted Nitro 5 gaming laptop. This version of Acer’s gaming laptop line combines Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics with AMD Ryzen 5000 series mobile processors, alongside nifty features like a 165Hz display and two slots for M.2 PCIe configurations.

Speaking at a virtual launch of the device, Johnson Seet, director of consumer business, product and marketing, Acer Malaysia, said 2021 will be a better year for everybody.

“Our latest Nitro 5 is powered by AMD Ryzen Series 5000 Mobile processor which allows you to conquer games and tasks alike.”

Indeed, the highest-spec configuration for the new Nitro 5 features an AMD Ryzen 9 5900 HX mobile processor, which is coupled with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 GPU. Rounding up this combo are two slots of M.2 PCIe, allowing users to equip two SSDs for RAID 0 configurations. The RAM capacity can go as high as 32GB.

The new Nitro 5 also comes with Wi-Fi 6 and Killer Ethernet E2600 support. The display is a 15.6-inch screen, which supports 165Hz refresh rate on QHD resolution. Those that prefer higher refresh rates can even opt for 360Hz on FHD resolution.

This face-lifted Nitro 5 has a revamped thermal system with dual fans and four strategically-placed exhaust vents to keep the device cooler. It has the Acer CoolBoost and NitroSense features include, allowing users to monitor fan speed and ramp it up when necessary.

Those seeking the refreshed Nitro 5 with Intel processors, don’t worry: Acer Malaysia announced that roughly a month ago.  

Price and promotions

Acer’s Nitro line of gaming laptops are typically considered their more affordable range of gaming laptops, though these new entries do broach into higher-end territories (usually occupied by Acer’s Predator line).

The highest-end Nitro 5, which features the AMD Ryzen R9 CPU and RTX 3080 GPU alongside 1TB of SSD storage, 15.6-inch 165Hz QHD 2K IPS Display and 16GB of RAM, is priced at US$2,179 (RM8,999).

There will be six variants of the new Nitro 5s, with prices starting from RM3,699 for the lowest-end configuration (AMD Ryzen R5, Nvidia GTX1650, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD, 15.6-inch 144Hz FHD display). The laptops will arrive in Malaysia in three phases, with pre-orders to open accordingly on select Acer official online stores.

Acer Malaysia said that there will be pre-order promotions for each phase, which include up to nearly RM1,000 worth of merchandise and additional RM100 off from Acer Official Store in Shopee.

Regardless of pre-order phase, customers who purchase any of these devices will be entitled to redeem free gifts, including up to RM200 worth of Touch 'n Go eWallet or Boost credit.

Zero to Nitro

Acer Malaysia has also announced the Acer Nitro QG241Y P monitor. This is a 23.8-inch VA panel that supports up to 165Hz refresh rate and 1ms VRB response time. It features AMD’s FreeSync Premium technology, which the company said allows users to enjoy smoother, tear-free visual experience.

The Nitro QG241Y P supports HDR10 and black boost technology that is said to enable greater immersion levels through realistic image recreation. It also comes with ComfyView, BlueLightShield and Low Dimming technologies to help reduce eye strain.

The new monitor is available immediately at all Acer official online stores and select Acer authorized resellers nationwide, retailing RM749. From April 14 until April 16, the Acer Nitro QG241Y P is available for RM699 in Acer official store on Shopee and Lazada.
