The realme 6i smartphone is now available in Malaysia. This quad-camera device holds the distinction of being the first smartphone to feature the MediaTek Helio G80, a gaming-focused chipset meant for the mid-range market.

This is an octa-core CPU with a main frequency of up to 2.0GHz, and is stated to offer “35% better single-core performance”. The chipset comes with the Mali G52 1000MHz GPU to handle the device’s graphics. All of these combine to an Antutu Benchmark result of 201,278.

“The realme 6i will stand out among others in its price segment as it features the latest performance and trendy design. The realme 6i also offers gamers an enjoyable gaming experience as well as beautiful pictures with its 48MP AI Quad Camera for photography lovers,” says realme Malaysia brand manager Tiffany Teh.

The smartphone is otherwise a fairly stripped down version of the recently-launched realme 6, which runs a more powerful MediaTek Helio G90T processor. Both feature a 6.5-inch HD+ display with a “mini drop” notch, though the realme 6i doesn’t have the 90Hz screen that the realme 6 touts.

The realme 6i’s camera similarly has a slight downgrade. It has a 48MP main camera (as opposed to the realme 6’s 64MP shooter) that is partnered with an 8MP 119-degrees ultra-wide-angle lens, a 2MP portrat lens and a 2MP ultra macro lens.

Where the realme 6i wins out, though, is in battery capacity. The device sports a massive 5,000mAh battery, much more than the realme 6’s 4,300mAh pack. It also supports 18W quick charge. The phone makers claim that the realme 6i can last 39 days with the screen turned off, and 40.07 hours with the screen on based on their tests.

Another nifty addition is a 3-card slot design, which allows the realme 6i to support two SIM cards and one microSD card simultaneously.

On the aesthetics side, the smartphone carries a design from Japanese industrial designer Naoto Fukasawa. It comes with two colours: Green Tea and White Milk.

The realme 6i comes in two spec variations. The 3GB RAM + 64GB ROM version prices at US$160 (RM699), while the 4GB RAM + 128GB ROM variation prices at US$205.67 (RM899). The first online sale of the 3GB version starts on 23 April 2020, while the 4GB version will be available starting 25 April.

There will be a special 24-hour promotion on Shopee where the 3GB version will price at US$137 (RM599) instead.
