- All third-party tech support ads banned
- Follows Google's ban on payday loan ads
MICROSOFT'S Bing has banned all third party tech support services - whether they are scams or not.
Tech support scammers take advantage of unsuspecting mostly Windows users by persuading them that their PCs are broken and then charging huge fees to 'repair' their systems. They also sometimes use the opportunity to install malware.
Most of the scammers advertise their services on search engines like Google and Bing. That is no longer going to be possible on Microsoft's Bing search engine.
Any and all third-party tech support services are now prohibited from advertising on Bing.
Microsoft's move comes a few days after Google announced that it was taking new measures to protect consumers from scam advertisers. From July 13h this year, Google will no longer accept ads from payday loan companies. Facebook also prohibits payday loan advertising on its site. Microsoft's stance on payday loan advertising is not yet known.
