U Mobile rolls out Tecprotec-powered U Care Plus 8 plan

U MOBILE Sdn Bhd has officially introduced the U Care Plus 8 mobile device insurance and protection plan in partnership with Tecprotec.
The plan protects devices from handphones and smartphones, to phablets and tablets, against accidental or liquid damage for just RM8 (US$2.42) a month or RM88 (US$26.64) annually, the two companies said in a statement.
The plan is available to all existing and new U Mobile postpaid subscribers, they added.
“This is the first time in Malaysia a mobile operator is able to offer an affordable device insurance and protection plan open to all devices, regardless of where [they were] purchased,” said U Mobile marketing director Jasmine Lee.
“Mobile devices play an important role in everyday life … U Care Plus 8 can give peace of mind to customers by providing them assurance in knowing that their devices are protected,” she added.
The U Care Plus 8 plan insures any new or existing devices purchased from U Mobile or third parties that is up to 10 months old, and comes with maximum 60-day worldwide coverage as well as free personal accident coverage of up to RM2,000 (US$605).
The mobile device is also insured against the cost of repair or replacement for up to RM1,000 (US$303) for accidental and liquid damage.
Above all is the frills-free process of making a claim, U Mobile and Tecprotec said. Customers just need to call the 1-300-80-1318 toll free line, complete and submit the official claim documents, and Tecprotec would then arrange free pick-up of the damaged device for an assessment.
Once the claim is approved, the customer simply pays the remaining excess fees. The device will then be repaired and delivered within seven working days.
Furthermore, in case the device is beyond repair, a replacement offer is also provided. This means that a U Mobile user can just walk into any U Mobile outlet, select his or her phone of choice, and then pay the price differential between the sum insured and the cost of the new device to walk home with a brand new device, the two companies said.
“We are proud to provide a protection plan that also caters for accidental and liquid damage, unlike our comprehensive plans that offer protection against attended theft to data back-up,” said George Hashim, international director of business development at Tecprotec.
“Based on our own research and historical claims data, we realised that there is a high incidence of damaged mobile devices, primarily handphones – the launch of the U Care Plus 8 plan is indeed very timely,” he added.
