Tektronix Communications wins StarHub deal

  • To provide radio access monitoring and assurance
  • Real-time, geo-located network intelligence all year round
Tektronix Communications wins StarHub deal

TEKTRONIX Communications announced it has been appointed by StarHub to provide Radio Access Network (RAN) performance assurance for StarHub customers all year round and especially during The Singapore Grand Prix (pic above), National Day, Christmas and New Year celebrations. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Building on its existing relationship with StarHub which dates back to 2012, Tektronix Communications said it was able to demonstrate the low total cost of ownership model of GeoSoft RAN, the software-based probe solution the company launched last year.

Using the GeoSoft RAN probes, in combination with Tektronix Communications’ Iris Session Analyzer (ISA) and touchpointTM customer care solutions, StarHub will achieve a full-service, end-to-end monitoring solution, to provide mobile access and customer experience assurance, Tektronix Communications said in a statement.

GeoSoft RAN probes extract real-time, geo-located performance data, whilst ISA’s Call Trace functionality monitors signalling from the device all the way through the network, the company said.

The combined Tektronix Communications’ solution has the added benefit of being network equipment manufacturer agnostic, essential for mobile operators that deploy infrastructure components from multiple vendors, it claimed.

“Traditionally, RAN data collection and insight has been a costly and complex issue reliant on the deployment of hardware probes requiring high capital expenditure (capex),” said Mike Ropicky, Tektronix Communications’ Asia Pacific vice president for sales.

“The GeoSoft RAN software-based probes offer deeper, real-time intelligence at a fraction of these historically high costs, with data feeds that serve multiple use cases and stakeholders around the operator’s business.

“This subsequently extends the ROI (return on investment) of the operator’s big data strategy, repurposing network intelligence for a variety of valuable uses,” he added.

The benefit of instant access to real-time, geo-located RAN insight is of particular importance during high footfall events, where substantial and unpredictable demands on the network can cause subscriber-impacting quality of service issues, Tektronix Communications said.

By combining RAN monitoring and customer care solutions, operators can identify potential network traffic issues and take appropriate action before they affect the subscriber experience.

“To ensure service quality for our mobile customers, we pay close attention to the performance of our mobile network around-the-clock with the help of intelligent monitoring systems,” said Lim Eng Huat, StarHub’s head of Mobile Network Engineering.

“By adopting Tektronix Communications’ GeoSoft RAN solution, we gain an added end-to-end view of our customers’ mobile experience, such as service availability, call success rate and typical data speeds, in real-time.

“These user experience performance insights enable us to carry out network enhancements promptly to deliver the highest level of customer satisfaction, especially during major public events where we see significant and sustained spikes in mobile usage,” he added.
