QEOS announces low-cost multi-Gigabit wireless links for outdoors

QUANTUM Electro Opto Systems Sdn Bhd (QEOS) has announced the QW6032-LR, part of its QWave product family, a wireless product co-designed with high performance antennas for outdoor applications.

The QW6032-LR is an adaptive CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) 60GHz millimetre-wave digital radio with a GigE (Gigabit Ethernet) interface and high performance antenna enabling outdoor connectivity from tens to hundreds of metres, QEOS said in a statement.

Describing it as the highest-performance, lowest-power solution, the QW6032-LR would enable the industry to deploy complete Gigabit wireless links, including antennas, at sub-US$1,000 price points.

It eliminates the need for modems, filters and costly antennas, drastically reducing outdoor link capital and operational expenditure, the company claimed.

Millimetre-wave is an extremely high-frequency technology; millimetre waves are longer than infrared waves or x-rays, but shorter than radio waves or microwaves.

“We are extremely pleased to introduce all-CMOS outdoor 60GHz wireless solutions with antennas at the lowest deployment cost in the industry,” said QEOS chief executive officer Dr Gabriel Walter (pic).

“Millimetre-wave technologies are the future of backhaul networking and 5G (Fifth Generation) technologies, and our broad product and IP (Internet Protocol) portfolio continues to enable QEOS to provide leading-edge disruptive solutions for this fast-growing industry,” added Walter, also a Digital News Asia Digerati50.

The QW6032-LR solution is currently sampling to select strategic partners, with broad availability expected later in the first quarter of 2015, QEOS said.

Melaka-based QEOS provides high-speed, low-power connectivity and intelligent video security solutions, delivered via a portfolio of optical, wireless, and wireline data communications technologies, and advanced video technology and applications.
