Creative media play: PopDigital acquires Tongue in Chic

CREATIVE media shop PopDigital Sdn Bhd has announced the acquisition of Tongue in Chic Sdn Bhd; the two companies will come together to form an independent digital media network called the Popfolio Network.
Financial terms were undisclosed.
The first product by Popfolio will be Makchic, a new portal for urban Malaysian mothers, that is expected to launch in late September, PopDigital said in a statement.
Makchic will join existing titles Tongue in Chic, PopTeeVee, Uma & Joe at the Movies, TheWknd and Poskod to complete the network.
The Popfolio Network aims to create and curate original content from Malaysia and across the region – from movies to music, from lifestyle and fashion to politics and satire.
Tongue in Chic chief executive officer Jia-Wei Loo will join the Popfolio Network as managing director.
PopDigital’s portfolio of projects, each with specific aims and objectives, include #BetterCities, which focuses on community-based projects to improve urban living; Poskod.my, an online magazine about city, community, and culture in the Klang Valley; PopTeeVee, a web TV network with the primary objective to help create a democratic media space; Uma and Joe at the Movies, an online show about movies; and The Greatest Hits, a creative agency.
Based in Kuala Lumpur, Tongue in Chic is a platform for fashion news, trends, talent, shopping and beauty from around the world. It was originally founded in 2008 by Joyce Wong of Kinkybluefairy and Adrian Yap of Freeform.
Tongue in Chic works to create buzz for young fashion designers, photographers, makeup and hair artists, stylists, illustrators and talents all trying to make their mark.
