MyTeksi founder wins ‘Technopreneur’ award at Pikom ICT Leadership Awards

THE founder of MyTeksi (known as GrabTaxi regionally) Anthony Tan has received the Technopreneur Excellence Award at the Pikom ICT Leadership Awards (PILA) organised by the National ICT Association of Malaysia (Pikom).

The Silverlake Group received the Member Excellence Award and CIMB won the ICT Project of the Year award, while Ambank chief information officer (CIO) Charles Tan was named CIO of the Year. Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission chairman Mohamed Sharil Tarmizi was conferred the ICT Personality of the Year.

The winners were announced at Pikom’s annual gala dinner on Nov 14, which was attended by 600 industry players and policy-makers, the association said in a statement.

Pikom also gave due recognition to companies that have been instrumental in reaching out to global markets and making a name not only for their products and services, but also for the country: Telekom Malaysia Research and Development, MOL AccessPortal, Galasys Solution and ADV Fusionex.

At the awards ceremony, Pikom chairman Cheah Kok Hoong urged the industry to come together to take on the challenges in 2015, especially with the imminent implementation of the Goods and Service Tax (GST) in April next year.

He reiterated that one of the association’s key initiatives in 2015 would be to drive individual membership.

“We are excited to build a good foundation for the individual membership which will ultimately benefit the industry as a whole.

“It would be a key platform for the over 400,000 ICT professionals in the country to meet and share ideas. Imagine a breeding ground for trend-setting and innovative ideas where discussion on skills in demand will be inevitable,” said Cheah.

Pikom’s membership currently comprises 1,000 companies that it says command about 80% of the total ICT trade in Malaysia.

The Pikom ICT Leadership Awards 2014 honours the individuals and companies that have demonstrated ICT’s best practices in their industry. The awards are also conferred to recognise those who have pushed the boundaries of excellence.
