IBM rolls out ‘starter kits’ for SMEs

IBM Malaysia has launched a series of ‘starter kits’ targeted at small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the manufacturing, distribution, retail and consumer goods sectors.

The starter kits, comprising hardware, bundled software and IT support services, come in three sizes – small, medium and large – with prices starting from RM38,000 (US$12,050), IBM Malaysia said in a statement.

Lease and loan packages through IBM Global Financing (IGF) are also available to credit-qualified SMEs, the company said.

“We believe these offerings that combine three key components critical for business operations would benefit SMEs which need reliable and effective solutions that fit within their required budget,” said IBM Malaysia managing director Paul Moung.

According to the Department of Statistics, almost 98% of businesses in Malaysia are SMEs, of which 90% are in the services sector. Research conducted by IBM revealed that SMEs view technology as a expense and not as a long-term investment.

Those are keen to invest face other challenges such as inadequate financing and lack of trained technical support.

“The starter kits are simplified to address such challenges, as our objective is to help local companies move up the value chain and maintain a healthy IT ecosystem in the industry,” said Moung.

The starter kits, available for 20-, 50- and 100-user licence, are also available on the cloud platform.

All starter kits come with a 30-day application support warranty following implementation as well as complimentary software subscription and support direct from IBM for the first year.

SMEs can pick and choose from any of the four combinations offered that is best suited to their business needs, IBM Malaysia said.

The starter kits are available through IBM channel of distributors and resellers. The primary distributors are ECS Berhad and Avnet Sdn Bhd. For more information, call IBM at 1800 881 155.
