PETRONAS Dagangan Bhd (PDB) on Nov 28 introduced Setel, the first e-payment solution for fuel purchases directly from mobile devices.

Setel is a customised solution designed to integrate directly to the fuel pumps – the first in Southeast Asia – enabling customers to purchase fuel within a few clicks directly in the comfort of their vehicles.

“Pumping fuel shouldn’t be a chore. Currently, the payment process involves walking to cashier, waiting in line, a RM200-hold on your cards, and having to use a separate card to earn loyalty points. Setel eradicates these pain points and integrates payment and loyalty benefits in a seamless, frictionless experience. At Setel, we settle for you!” said Setel head Iskandar Ezzahuddin.

“Since our beta-launch in July 2018, we have received many positive responses and feedback from over 10,000 users in our current pool. We also received overwhelming response from visitors at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2018 held last week,” he continued.

Setel is part of PDB’s initiatives to engage the start-up communities in co-creating innovative solutions to enhance customer experience.

“Petronas has been focusing on creating a new customer experience in our retail business by leveraging on the power of digital. Setel enables a seamless end-to-end experience that focuses on providing convenience and ease for fuel purchases at our customers’ fingertips. We are proud to be the first to offer this service in Malaysia,” said Syed Zainal Syed Mohd Tahir, managing director/chief executive officer of PDB.

Setel can now be used at more than 40 stations within the Klang Valley, reaching 600 sites by June 2019 and is expected to go nationwide by the end of 2019.

Setel is available on both Android and iOS platforms via Google Play and App Store. Beyond fuel purchase, customers would be able to purchase items at the Mesra stores beginning January 2019.
