Penang TECHFEST Live features Road-to-WCIT in hybrid series of events to drive inclusivity of tech for all

With immediate recovery actions to reschedule the physical event of the much celebrated 24th World Congress On Information Technology, WCIT to the year 2022, it is also announced that Penang with its stakeholders will steadfastly push forth with a series of hybrid events of Penang TECHFEST Live, a 3-day global tech festival for growth and market access that will also be featuring lead-ups to the world congress as ROAD-TO-WCIT Malaysia.
At the request of participating countries, Penang TECHFEST Live will now take place on the 18th to the 20th November 2020, as a live telecast from Penang with exclusive physical events and online streaming to a global audience with virtual exhibitions, AI-powered B2B matching and networking as well as workshops and masterclasses.
During the launch of TECHFEST Live’s ticketing platform, Chief Minister of Penang, Chow Kon Yeow also welcomed two more partners, Facebook and the OCK Group Bhd. Facebook will be launching one of its five innovation hubs in George Town, to increase local and global connectedness of Malaysia’s tech ecosystem. OCK Group will be contributing its strengths in telecommunications infrastructure and technology services especially with trial deployment of 5G applications for smart cities development.
“Penang TECHFEST Live still has the same mission which is to call for a reframe on the promises of the digital age. We need to hold every innovation accountable for societal good. Even the TECHFEST Live logo is a simple symbol comprising of hands to signify the act of reframing the need for technology to better our lives,” enthused the Chief Minister.
There will be 20 hours of programming, mostly telecasted live with conversations to explore new strategic and collaborative efforts with global speakers such as Douglas Comstock, the Deputy CFO of NASA Headquarters; Professor Soumitra Dutta, the author of Global Innovation Index with world Economic Forum; Dr. William Magee, Founder of Operation Smile, Mary-Jo de Leeuw, Europe’s Top 50 influential women in cybersecurity; and Audrey Tang, Taiwan’s Digital Minister. In addition, there will be multiple streaming sessions that will include workshops and masterclasses plus targeted networking and business matching opportunities.
One of the most anticipated events from Road-To-WCIT Malaysia is the WITSA Global ICT Excellence Awards 2020 which will be presented to exceptional achievements in realising the potential of businesses, providing better services, improve services and providing trust and transparency in governance. Entries are submitted from around the world for 9 categories namely Digital Opportunity/Inclusion Award; Sustainable Growth Award, Innovative eHealth Solutions Award, Digital Innovation Award, E-Education & Learning Award and COVID-19 Tech Solutions Awards.
The other highlight of TECHFEST Live is the 2020’s Featured Innovations where innovative products, services and startups are invited to showcase and build market traction through a home-shopping-talk-show format, the TECH Marketplace. This programme aims to list 300 new and emerging techs out of which some 40 will be properly highlighted and promoted to consumers.
TECHFEST Live featuring ROAD-TO-WCIT Malaysia is expected to attract an online participation of 3,000 international visionaries, captains of industry, government leaders and academics that span across over 80 countries.
