MSTB’s lab gets internationally-recognised accreditation

  • MSTB Software Product Testing Lab gets cert from Standards Malaysia
  • Recognises expertise, competency of staff, procedures, equipment, etc.

THE Malaysian Software Testing Board (MSTB) said its laboratory has obtained accreditation under international standards for testing and calibration laboratories.

The MS ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation is for the certification laboratory, internally referred to the System Laboratory, which undertakes the task of testing and evaluating software under the Quality Software (QS) Product Certification scheme.

Standards Malaysia officially handed over the accreditation certificate on Sept 11 at the Softec 2014 conference on software testing organised annually by MSTB.

“With this accreditation, the laboratory receives formal recognition of the expertise, competency of its staff, management systems, procedures, equipment and facilities based on independent third party assessment,” said Shaharul Sadri, director of accreditation at Standards Malaysia.

The Certificate of Accreditation is valid for three years from Sept 3, 2014, MSTB said in a statement.

“QS certification would enhance market competitiveness of made-in-Malaysia software in domestic and international markets,” said MSTB president Mastura Abu Samah (pic).

“In addition, having good quality products enable them to have better returns through a reduction in the cost of maintenance, as well as in managing and rectifying after-sale customer issues related to poor quality,” she added.

Mastura said Malaysian software players must emphasise the quality of their products if they were to remain relevant in the market. With quality, they can even prosper in the more lucrative global arena, she added.

Standards Malaysia’s Shaharul said that the accreditation comes at the right time to help accelerate the growth of the Malaysian software industry.
