Garena, Media Prima partner to grow e-sports industry

GARENA, Southeast Asia’s largest consumer internet platform company and Media Prima Television Networks will go into partnership to promote and educate Malaysians about the e-gaming industry.

Media Prima aims to provide news access to tournaments, updates and events for world-renowned e-sports titles such as League of Legends, EA Sports FIFA Online 3 and Arena of Valor via TV network and social media broadcasts.

As the game publishers and organisers of major gaming events held in Malaysia, Garena will manage event proceedings and provide relevant content as well as technical and manpower support for upcoming event collaborations.

According to Media Prima Television Networks chief executive officer Johan Ishak, “We see the full potential of e-gaming and there is much to do to put Malaysia on the international e-sports stage.

“That is why we are working to air gaming tournaments on Media Prima’s TV networks. Our aim is to promote tournaments, gaming news and events, in and around Malaysia, also regionally via coverage on TV or our social media platforms.”

Garena Malaysia partnerships manager Fern Yeap said: “E-sports has evolved into a spectator sport with a growing culture and fan base in Malaysia, limited only by infrastructure. Airing local tournaments on mass media is a big first step towards making e-sports more accessible in the nation.

“As local experts in our respective fields, we believe that the long-term collaboration between Garena and Media Prima will greatly strengthen the gaming ecosystem by giving more voice and visibility to the local players, events and happenings.”

Media Prima will showcase EA Sports FIFA Online 3's National Championship: Season 7 Grand Finals at TV9’s social media channels on TV9’s Facebook page on Nov 11, 2017.

Earlier this week, Media Prima launched its new online portal in collaboration with Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), MyGameOn (www.mygameon.my) that provides news, reviews and events for games, featuring both local and international content.
