Epson claims FY2015 sales up 31% in Malaysia

THE Epson Group has claimed that a strong performance across all key business units in Malaysia helped drive overall fiscal 2014 sales up 31%, more than double its growth rate compared with FY 2013, but did not disclose actual numbers.

In its FY2104, which ended March 2015, the digital imaging and printing solutions company's projector segment saw sales up 57% year-over-year, driven primarily by growing demand for its business projectors, Epson said in a statement.

The company claims to have a 24.3% share of Malaysia’s projector market. Citing Futuresource Consulting figures, it said this was the company’s 14th consecutive year as the world’s No 1 projector brand, with almost one in three projectors purchased in 2014 being an Epson projector.

“Our strong FY2014 performance comes on the back of 14 consecutive months of over-achieving sales targets – which underscores the incremental appeal of our brand and products,” said Epson Malaysia country manager Shimizu Tomoya (pic above).

“We will continue to build on our compact, energy saving and high precision core technologies to bring more innovative, versatile and reliable printing and imaging solutions to the Malaysian market,” he added.

In its statement, Epson said its inkjet printers continue to deliver strong full-year performance with sales rising 29% year-over-year, due primarily to the increasing popularity of its L-Series printers which saw sales go up 37% year-over-year.

“Not only does Epson offer the versatility of wirelessly printing from whatever device the user prefers, we are also successfully addressing the issue of cost management that is a priority in any business,” he claimed.

Epson’s dot matrix printers and POS printers also made significant contributions in FY2014. With a 96% market share in Malaysia, Epson’s dot matrix printer sales rose 32% year-over-year; while its POS printers registered sales growth of 54% to achieve a market share of 36%.

Epson began operations in Malaysia in 1991 as Epson Trading (M) Sdn Bhd before being incorporated as Epson Malaysia Sdn Bhd. Today, it has 84 employees and 61 authorised service outlets throughout the country.
