Aerodyne Group, a DT3 (Drone Tech, Data Tech, and Digital Transformation) drone-based enterprise solutions provider and Kiwitech have signed an Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on transforming cities through Smart Surveillance.

This strategic partnership was driven by the need to leverage on Aerodyne’s capability in aerial intelligence, and Kiwitech’s existing surveillance assets in 25 Malaysian cities.

To date, Kiwitech owns 538 CCTV poles and 50 control centres nationwide. Aerodyne employs over 450 drone professionals and operates in the UAS (Unmanned Aerial Services) sector, having managed more than 320,000 infrastructure assets with 110,000 flight operations and managing over 120,000 km of power infrastructure across 35 countries globally.

The Aerodyne and Kiwitech strategic partnership is geared to support the implementation of Kiwitech’s Smart City Program with the local councils in 25 Malaysian cities for the next 3 years.

In strengthening and sustaining the partnership, both parties will involve the development of AI-driven surveillance and geospatial analytics. As the quick win to this collaboration, both parties will invest in the deployment of aerial inspection and monitoring analytics,  leveraging on existing smart poles under Kiwitech.

Founder and Group CEO of Aerodyne, Kamarul Muhamed, the freshly minted 'EY Entrepreneur Of The Year 2020' for Malaysia, hails the partnership as a game-changer for the development of smart cities in Malaysia. “We can now enable real time AI-driven aerial data for quick situational responses and data driven decision making.”

Aerodyne is ranked second in the world by Drone Industry Insights (DII) in its ‘Drone Service Provider Ranking 2020’.

Founded in 2000, Kiwitech is now pioneering a game-changing Smart City Implementation Model in Malaysia, with an aim to advocate the holistic and integrated approach to support the Sustainable Development Goal 11 on Sustainable Cities and Communities involving Policies, Programs and Projects.

In ensuring early success and uptake of this Smart City Program, Kiwitech is also promoting ‘Smart City As A Service’ model through government Operational Expenditure (opex).

“This opex-based approach minimises the government’s capex expenditure, technology and maintenance risks. Through this model, the government will be able to leverage on private sector capabilities and funding resources to accelerate Smart City implementation in Malaysia.” said Azrin Abu Bakar, Group Managing Director of Kiwitech Sdn Bhd.

As the Founding Member of Smart City Industry Alliance (SCIA), Kiwitech also takes industry leadership to intensify other private sector investments in cities through SCIA’s smart solutions in addressing cities’ urbanisation and climate change challenges.
