TM in WiFi roaming deal with BT

  • TM’s WiFi footprint to be included in BT’s Global WiFi roaming hub
  • Allows for seamless LTE and WiFi roaming in Malaysia and UK: TM

TM in WiFi roaming deal with BTTELEKOM Malaysia Bhd (TM) said it has signed a roaming agreement with British Telecommunications Plc (BT) which would allow both parties to leverage each other’s WiFi networks in Malaysia and the United Kingdom.

This would give end-users a seamless experience in Long-Term Evolution (LTE) and WiFi roaming, TM said in a statement.

Under agreement, TM’s national WiFi footprint will be included in BT’s Global WiFi roaming hub, which would allow BT customers to leverage on TM’s WiFi estates while roaming in the country and region.

TM will also be interconnected with BT’s Global WiFi roaming hub, which allows its customers to access the full range of global and UK-based WiFi capabilities for a converged mobile roaming experience while travelling abroad and in the United Kingdom.

Combining this with existing and new LTE roaming offerings, TM said it can now offer its customers a truly integrated and seamless connectivity that addresses their data consumption needs and their demand for “rich communication services.”

“The United Kingdom is a key roaming destination for Malaysians, and connecting TM to our Global WiFi roaming hub helps TM address convergence needs and differentiate in a competitive market,” said Andrew Dodsworth, vice president of BT’s Global Telecom Markets.

“In turn, with access to TM’s domestic WiFi estate, BT is enhancing the global footprint of its WiFi Hub in a vibrant South-East Asian key market, extending our long-standing relationship with Malaysia’s incumbent operator,” he added.

BT’s Global WiFi roaming hub integrates WiFi estates globally. The service removes access and authentication hurdles and allows seamless WiFi roaming embedded in the mobile network operator’s standard authentication process to reduce capital expenditure requirements.
