IBM said it is extending the Smarter Cities Challenge competitive grants programme, which funds the deployment of IBM's top talent to perform pro bono problem-solving in municipalities worldwide. The company is encouraging regional governing bodies, not only cities, to also apply for grants that will fund consultative engagements with IBM experts in 2014.
IBM said a number of its employees would be working with local organisations from the state of Melaka on a variety of projects and programmes under the US technology giant’s Corporate Service Corps (CSC) initiative.
A team of IBM volunteers has presented recommendations that the company said would enable the Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) and the Kuantan Municipal Council (MPK) in Pahang, Malaysia to formulate tangible strategies to improve their efficiency and engagement with the state’s people.
