Bigo launches Cube TV, elevates gamers in e-sports arena

SINGAPORE-headquartered Bigo, which owns a social video streaming app Bigo Live launches Cube TV, a platform that focuses on mobile gaming live streaming, the e-sports arena and boasts a game shopping mall.

This is an expansion strategy of Bigo that aims to fulfil gamers' needs in terms of mobile gaming.

“The idea is to create a vibrant gaming environment where we provide our users with the opportunity to interact in a gaming arena, allowing them to widen their social circle and be able to share their interest with like-minded people.

“The shopping mall will serve the needs of gamers who are looking for gaming products and even allow them to make an income. We hope to contribute to the e-gaming scene and foster opportunities for gamers in Asia. We've signed local professional e-gamers such as, Micheal Souw, Afif, Rahmad and are expecting to see more pros,” said Cube TV head of marketing Aswin Atonie.

He says that Cube TV already has more than two million active users each month before its launch in Southeast Asia (SEA), the Middle East, South America, and Russia.

Cube TV utilises artificial intelligence (AI) technology in its system and allows users to stream and watch video in Blue Ray.

The company also announced its strategic partnership with one of the biggest mobile gamed, Mobile Legends.

“Bigo is one of our most important partners and we are excited to be partnering Cube TV to hold e-sports matches and drive in-app promotions. Mobile Legends will be increasing its focus and resources to drive the Indonesian gaming market and continue to forge deeper cooperation with Cube TV to bring more user benefits to both companies,” said Mobile Legends operations director Caya Yan.

Bigo Live closed its C Series funding round in March 2017 led by Ping An Overseas Holdings. In a statement then, the company said that the undisclosed sum brings its total funding to US$180 million (RM715.82 million) and its valuation to over US$400 million (RM1.6 billion).

The business earned revenues of US$300 million (RM1.2 billion) in 2017 and has more than 200 million users in more than 100 countries including Japan, India and the United States. In Indonesia, it has more than one million daily active users and 20 thousand daily live streaming rooms.

In 2016, Bigo Live was banned by the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Information due to content displaying nudity.

Now, after building its local team and having the commitment and technology to reduce negative content, Bigo Live global marketing head Chang Chen says that the company will work with the Indonesian government.

He says that Bigo Live now has AI technology that can help to capture pornographic content in every streaming room, with 99% of accuracy.

“We are committed to keeping positive contents on our platform. Therefore, our algorithm to filter negative content can take less than 60 seconds, but government’s systems need three minutes.”

Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Information Application and Information director general Samuel Abrijani says, “The government welcome the efforts that have been made by Bigo and with its tools and technology, it will help us in monitoring the circulation of negative content on the internet”
