MICROSOFT has announced that the high-end Surface Pro 7 and relatively more accessible Surface Laptop 3 are now available in Malaysia. These are mobile productivity devices, meant to be more adaptable and versatile.
“Over the last few years digital innovations have shaped a new culture of life and work. Technology, driven by Artificial Intelligence, anticipates needs, simplifies our tasks and extends our capabilities. It can help us to be extraordinary - to be a better parent, a better student, a better employee,” says Microsoft Malaysia chief marketing & operations officer Michal Golebiewski.
“Created for the modern people in mind, the new line-up of Surface devices offers unparalleled versatility, greater performance and multi-tasking capabilities that empower every individual to achieve more.”
Going for pro
The new Surface Pro 7 now comes with the more powerful quad-core 10th Gen Intel core processor, supposedly 2.3 times faster than previous generations. The device is available in two colours – Black and Platinum.
Being a 2-in-1 device, it makes sense for people to complete the experience by getting the new versions of the Signature Type Cover, the Arc Mouse and Pen, which all come in varying colours (including the more striking Poppy Red and Ice Blue). Like the other Surfaces, the Pro 7 comes with a built-in kickstand.
The device weighs a mere 775g and comes with a 12.3-inch PixelSense Display with 2736 x 1824 resolution (267ppi). With its Instant On feature, you can dive right into work or play by opening the cover. Battery life is listed as up to 10.5 hours, though it depends on the specs. There’s also a USB-C port now, which is great.
The Surface Pro 7 comes in several configurations of varying specifications, with prices starting from US$1,327.78 (RM5,499, if you go for the Intel Core i5, 256GB SSD and 8GB of RAM setup).
Balanced act
The new Surface Laptop 3, on the other hand, is for those seeking a traditional notebook computer, though it’s designed to be just as slim and lightweight. What’s different now is the inclusion of the 10th Gen Intel Core processors.
The laptop is now available two sizes – 13.5-inches and 15-inches. The 15-inch version in particular features an all-metal design and comes with a custom AMD processor instead, which is meant to provide strong graphics performance.
The 13.5-inch version is certainly the more lightweight version, weighing 1.288kg for its Matte Black version. Battery life is stated as up to 11.5 hours. Its Fast Charging feature supposedly provides it with up to 80% of battery life in about one hour of charging. The trackpad is also 20% larger, for easier navigation.
Like the Surface Pro 7, the Surface Laptop 3 also has Instant On and USB-C ports, though it also features USB-A as well as dual far-field Studio Mics for those team calls. The hard drive is also removable, for those who want to exercise more control over their company’s sensitive information – though only by a “skilled technician” following Microsoft’s instructions.
The 13.5-inch version of the Surface Laptop 3 prices from US$1,086.32 (RM4,499), with different and more expensive configurations available. The 15-inch version, however, only comes with AMD Ryzen 5 3580 U processor alongside 256GB SDD and 8GB RAM, and prices at US$1,641.68 (RM6,799).
Microsoft today announced that Surface Pro 7 and Surface Laptop 3 are now available in Malaysia via commercial authorised resellers Prestariang, Software One, and authorised retailers All IT, Gizmart by PC Image, Gloo by SNS, Harvey Norman, Lazada-Microsoft flagship store, Senheng, Shopee-Microsoft flagship store, and TMT by Thundermatch.
