Fujifilm introduces square-format Instax SQ6

FUJIFILM Malaysia has launched its latest Instax camera the Square SQ6 in Malaysia, the only country to launch simultaneously with Japan.

The camera is touted as the company’s first analogue square-format Instax camera, though it is its second camera to do so. Fujifilm had previously released its hybrid instant camera the SQ10 last year, which captured digital photos digitally and printed square-format instant photos.

Available in three distinct colours: Graphite Gray, Pearl White and Blush Gold, the SQ6 is a perfectly square camera with a retro aesthetic that befits artistic users.

Fujifilm Malaysia managing director Yoshitaka Nakamura expects the company’s Instax segment to continue to grow thanks to the introduction of products like the SQ6. Fujifilm targets to increase sales of Instax cameras up to nine million units in 2018.

Fujifilm claims the square format photos are 1.5 times bigger than that of its Instax mini prints, thus offering greater flexibility to frame shots and fit in more subjects into a photo.

With an easy to operate “On/Off” button, the SQ6 offers a range of different modes for a variety of situations that include “Landscape” and “Macro”.

Fujifilm says the camera has an automatic exposure adjustment function that detects the ambient brightness in a room and appropriately adjusts the optimum shutter speed and flash intensity.

In addition, the SQ6 has a “Double Exposure Mode” for photographers to express their artistic side further as it allows two photos to be overlapped on a single film. There are also three flash colour filters consisting of orange, purple and green, that can be placed over the flash to change the colour of the overall photo.

There is even a selfie mode in the camera that automatically adjusts focus and brightness to facilitate better self-portraits, helped by the little mirror next to the lens to help position yourself in the frame.

According to Fujifilm, the SQ6 is available now across Malaysia and will be sold for RM598. It currently offers the camera with an early bird package that includes a suede case, twin pack square film (containing 20 films) and a unit of CR2 rechargeable battery.
