Asus ZenFone 3 Zoom boasts improved camera and large battery

THE world just got a little closer with Asus’ new ZenFone 3 Zoom, a smartphone the Taiwanese company claims is the slimmest and lightest 5.5-inch smartphone with a slim chassis and weighs a mere 170g.

On the outside, the ZenFone 3 Zoom is constructed of aluminium-alloy with a 2.5D contoured Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protecting its 5.5-inch full HD AMOLED display.

Consisting of two cameras a main 12-Megapixel Sony IMX 362 sensor with a f/1.7 aperture and 25mm wide-angle lens paired with a 12-Megapixel zoom camera that is capable 2.3X optical zoom and 12X total zoom.

According to Asus, the ZenFone 3 Zoom will feature the company’s SuperPixel Camera that enables it to shoot photos quickly and clearly at night or low light environments. It is said that Asus’ SuperPixel technology is more light sensitive compared to the average smartphone.

The camera also features dual pixel phase detect autofocus (PDAF) that Asus claims to focus and track subjects at incredibly fast speeds.

Experienced photographers will also be pleased to know that the ZenFone 3 Zoom allows for RAW photo taking. RAW files save more data than regular JPEG files that are compressed. This enables users to enhance the image within an editing software by recovering overexposed highlights and uncovering unseen details.

Not forgetting video recording, the ZenFone 3 Zoom’s cameras also allow recording of videos up to 4K UHD resolution.

Turning the ZenFone 3 Zoom around and you will be greeted by a 13-Megapixel front facing camera that also benefits from Asus’ SuperPixel technology to take great looking selfies.

Asus says the ZenFone 3 Zoom is all about power efficiency as it houses a big 5,000mAh battery paired with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, 4GB and 64GB of on-board storage. Putting all that power to use, users can expect 6.4 hours of continuous 4K UHD video recording and 42 days of standby time.

The high-capacity battery also enables the phone to double up as a power bank to charge other devices.

The ZenFone 3 Zoom is available in Navy Black now in Malaysia for US$474 (RM,2099).
