Samsung brings affordable line of Galaxy J series to Malaysia
Samsung Malaysia Electronics’s recently unveiled mid-range Samsung Galaxy J series is now available to Malaysian consumers.

The Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7 (pic above) are Android-based smartphones that support dual SIM cards and 4G (fourth-generation networks) with a focus on striking a balance between price and performance.

“Samsung’s innovations are driven by demands from our consumers and the Galaxy J is our answer to the call for a better smartphone at an affordable price. Placed at a price point that won’t break the bank, the Galaxy J gives our customers the ultimate viewing experience with enhanced camera specifications supported by a well-balanced performance”, said Lee Sang Hoon, President of Samsung Malaysia Electronics.

Taking design cues from its higher-end Galaxy S and Grand series, the J series comes with plastic bodies with metallic finishes on the edges, plus the physical home button below the screen.

Available in black, white and gold colours, the 5.5-inch Galaxy J7 sports a Samsung Exynos 1.5GHz octa-core processor, while the Galaxy J5 (pic below) is a 5-inch unit is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.2GHz quad-core chipset.

On the imaging front, both devices come with the now-standard 5-megapixel front camera and 13-megapixel rear camera and LED flash.

Samsung added some enhancements for selfie lovers, with a front flash, a ‘beauty face’ and palm recognition feature so you can activate the shutter without having to tap the screen.

Photography features from the company’s higher-end models, like activating the camera quickly by double clicking on the home button, have also been included.
Both come with the same 1.5GB of usable memory but there is a difference in the built-in storage capacity.  The J7 comes with 16GB of storage, while the J5 has half that at 8GB.  Both these devices support expandable micro SD storage cards up to 128GB.

On the display side, the pair come endowed with Super AMOLED HD (1280 x 780 resolution) displays, promising brighter, saturated colours.

The Galaxy J5 will be priced at RM799 while the J7 will be available for RM999, inclusive of GST.
