MICROSOFT Corp has announced the availability of the Windows Upgrade Offer for consumers purchasing a new Windows 7 PC, where they have the option to purchase a downloadable upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for an estimated retail price of US$14.99 (approximately RM48)
In Malaysia, the company also announced that small and medium business (SMB) customers who upgrade to Windows 7 on Open License with Software Assurance will enjoy a 30% discount.
Software Assurance entitles the SMB customers to 24x7 support, home-use rights, and step-up rights to Windows 7 Enterprise Edition with Bitlocker Drive Encryption, Microsoft said in a statement.
They will also get a free upgrade to Windows 8 once it is launched. For more information on this offer, SMB customers can call toll-free 1800-881-400.
The Windows Upgrade Offer promotion is redeemable when Windows 8 is generally available. The Windows Upgrade Offer is just the first of many consumer offers that will roll out in conjunction with the general availability of Windows 8, Microsoft said.
“The Windows Upgrade Offer gives people the flexibility to purchase the new Windows PC they need today, with the knowledge they can easily upgrade to Windows 8 when it’s available,” said Sunny Ooi, Consumer Channels Group director at Microsoft Malaysia.
This program began June 2 in 131 markets worldwide including Malaysia and is available for consumers buying new Windows 7 PCs that are preinstalled with Windows 7 Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional or Ultimate and include a matching and valid OEM Certificate of Authenticity.
The Windows 7 PC must be purchased new during the eligibility period of June 2, 2012 to Jan 31, 2013, and redeemed before the program expires on Feb 28, 2013, Microsoft said.
Consumers who register for the Windows Upgrade Offer will be able to download Windows 8 starting the day it’s made generally available. The upgrade can be installed on any eligible and compatible Windows PC and comes with 90 days of support from Microsoft.
