MyRepublic launches plug-and-play WAN service

SINGAPORE-headquartered MyRepublic has launched what it claims is the world’s first self-provisioning plug-and-play WAN (wide area network) service.

MySDN Cloud VPN (virtual private network) marks a significant step in the mainstream adoption of software-defined networking (SDN), the company said in a statement.

Much as how virtualisation disrupted the hardware industry by replacing physical servers with virtual machines, SDN looks to replace cumbersome and expensive WAN implementation with a centralised cloud-based VPN solution, it added.

A WAN service built on Nuage Networks from Nokia’s Virtualised Network Services offering, MySDN Cloud VPN streamlines the complexity of network infrastructure, providing IT managers with a holistic view of their network with a policy-based self-service console.

With MySDN Cloud VPN, businesses can make location-specific or network-wide changes in minutes, and without visiting their remote sites, the company said.

“With MySDN Cloud VPN, businesses can be launched in locations that were once impossible. Enterprises can open remote offices in days instead of months,” said MyRepublic chief executive officer Malcolm Rodrigues.

For businesses without dedicated IT support, MySDN Cloud VPN provides a simple yet powerful plug-and-play solution. Setting up a connection at a new location requires only the MySDN device and a working Internet connection – be it fibre, copper or mobile broadband, MyRepublic said.

MySDN Cloud VPN’s carrier-grade provisioning and policy engine is hosted by MyRepublic. Additionally, the service supports IP Security (IPSec) and features dual WAN port uplinks per device for added redundancy.

“MySDN Cloud VPN delivers the true power of SDN technology to customers, giving them on-demand control, flexibility and world-class security,” said Nuage Networks founder and chief executive officer Sunil Khandekar.

MySDN Cloud VPN is now available to customers across the region, including Singapore, Indonesia and New Zealand. MyRepublic has also partnered with ACA Pacific Technology to roll out the service.
