Wilson Electronics brings its products to Malaysia, appoints distributor

US-based cellular signal booster maker Wilson Electronics has launched its products in Malaysia, saying they would be marketed under its new global brand name, weBoost (www.weboost.com/my).

The company has also signed an agreement with Digital Paper to distribute its products across the country, Wilson Electronics said in a statement.

“Having a strong and reliable cellphone connection is vital in today’s fast-paced world and can make a difference, be it in our personal or professional lives," said weBoost president and chief executive officer Bob Van Buskirk.

“At weBoost we believe that staying connected, whether at home, in the office, or on the road, is vitally important to all our cellular customers throughout the world.

“Based on our research, Malaysians desire reliable cellular signals and seamless connectivity for their work and personal lives. We’re excited to bring our products and technology to Malaysian consumers as we enter this new chapter in our global expansion into Asia, with Malaysia being our first destination outside North America for weBoost,” he added.

weBoost will launch with two cellular signal boosters in Malaysia: The Connect 3G and the Drive 3G-S.

For those who depend on reliable connectivity indoors, the weBoost Connect 3G cellular signal booster delivers significant coverage enhancements to voice and 2G and 3G data, for all carriers and cellular devices.

It works by capturing the outside, usable signal, amplifying it, and redistributing the boosted and usable signal throughout an entire home or office, providing reliable voice and data coverage for all cellular carriers where it is needed, weBoost claimed.

The weBoost Drive 3G-S is an all-in-one phone cradle and signal booster that extends the range where a call can be made, which virtually eliminates areas of poor coverage, providing more consistent and reliable service.

Like the Connect 3G, it boosts voice and data signals for 2G and 3G, and works with all cellular carriers.

When used in weak signal areas, both products can provide as much as three hours of additional talk time, or 20% better battery life, the company claimed.

Distribution in Malaysia

To lead the team and entry into Malaysia, weBoost has appointed Young Ryu as its country manager.

He brings more than 30 years of RF (radio frequency) communications and sales experience to the role. Prior to joining weBoost, Ryu was a senior applications engineering manager for Asia at RF Micro Devices.

He also served as sales director for East Asia at Sirenza Microdevices Inc. He holds a Bachelor and Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from UCLA.

Meanwhile, Digital Paper has been selected as the official distributor of weBoost’s products.

“The relationship with Wilson Electronics not only increases our product offerings but extends the commitment we made to our channel partners to bring them world-class, leading-edge products,” said its managing director Rickie Liew.

“By leveraging Digital Paper’s network and support infrastructure we can ensure availability of high-quality solutions and services nationwide,” he added.

The weBoost signal boosters will be available for purchase at select locations throughout the country retailing at RM389 (US$119.99) for the Drive 3G-S and RM1,145 (US$349.99) for the Connect 3G.
