AIMS in pact with China Telecom to extend IP routes to the mainlandCARRIER-neutral data centre operator and managed service provider AIMS Group has announced a partnership with China Telecom which will see the Malaysian company reselling the latter’s premium IP (Internet Protocol) routes and data centre capacity to local corporations seeking to expand into various Chinese cities.

China Telecom claims to be the world's largest wireline telecommunications and broadband services provider, as well as the world's largest CDMA mobile operator, AIMS said in a statement.

“In hand with this arrangement, AIMS will be working with China Telecom to roll out IPVPN (Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network) services as more Chinese Internet content is expected to be in demand by the Malaysian market,” said AIMS chief executive officer Chiew Kok Hin (pic).

He added that the partnership is part of AIMS’ on-going effort to provide more value-added services and competitive variation to its customers.

“With the AIMS-China Telecom collaboration, Malaysian companies and AIMS’ customers seeking to venture into the Chinese market can now leverage on the established premier IP routes,” Chiew said, adding that this meant more content-sharing opportunities between China and Asean ISPs (Internet service providers).

China Telecom claims to serve more than 92 million broadband users and provides Chinese Internet information through more than 2.3 million websites. It manages 64.7% of Chinese Internet domain names and owns more than 70% of Chinese Internet content resources.

In addition, it provides global customers with many resources including information, video, real-time chatting tools, online trading, games, search engine and information services.

“China Telecom’s partnership with AIMS is also with the objective of attracting ISPs and Internet data centre providers in Malaysia to do business with [us],” said Li Jun (pic), president of China Telecom (M) Sdn Bhd, its local subsidiary.

“Indeed, this partnership marks an important milestone in China Telecom’s supporting role to complement Malaysia in establishing itself as Asean’s regional hub for telecommunications,” he said.

Li said that his company has more than 300 Internet data centres in mainland China, including major cities such as Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen and Chengdu; and currently has also built five such centres overseas.
