goSwiff launches new business for mobile network operators

SINGAPORE-headquartered mobile commerce and marketing services provider goSwiff has launched a new line of business to support mobile network operators (MNOs) in omni-channel payments.

Alternative payment methods offer a great opportunity for MNOs to differentiate themselves and to develop additional services, leveraging existing merchant accounts and getting new ones on board, the company said in a statement.

In cooperation with multinational MNOs including Ooredoo and Globe Telecom, goSwiff said it is gearing its payment acceptance platform to match the requirements of mobile financial services.

The new line of business will handle strategic direction, operations and go-to-market execution of goSwiff’s worldwide mobile network operator focus.

Consumer-facing financial services including mobile money, airtime top-up, closed loop cards and remittance present MNOs with a significant strategic channel to expand their revenues and possibly launch new mobile financial services in the market.

Smart point-of-sale (Smart POS) would provide a platform for merchants to enable all mobile financial services, to acquire data analytics, to develop additional consumer offering, and to integrate the acceptance of payments into new technologies available for specific industry verticals, goSwiff argued.

In emerging markets, the growing smartphone penetration, a large base of SMEs (small and medium enterprises) and micro-merchants, and a low penetration of traditional POS terminals offer huge potential for first movers, it said.

A specific target audience for many mobile financial services are under-banked merchants, who currently do not have access to mainstream financial services, it added.

“We are fulfilling the need of strategic products and services that MNOs currently ask for worldwide,” said goSwiff chief operating officer Stefano Diemmi, who will also head the new line of business.
