VADS launches Malaysia’s first virtual private cloud

VADS Berhad, an integrated managed information and communications technology (ICT) and business process outsourcing (BPO) service provider, has signed an agreement with IBM Malaysia Sdn Bhd to launch Malaysia’s first virtual private cloud (VPC).

The VPC would address the needs of large enterprises in Malaysia by offering a full spectrum of customised cloud computing services, the two companies said in a statement.

Hosted in Malaysia, this enterprise-grade private cloud solution fulfils customers’ requirement for flexible cloud computing solutions without the need of high upfront investments and skilled resources to deliver on-demand computing flexibility in a secured environment, they claimed.

Both companies also agreed to deliver collaborative cloud offerings ranging from Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) to enterprise Software-as-a-Service (SaaS).

“We noticed a strong demand amongst our customers for an affordable, reliable, secure and versatile computing platform; and our VPC is able to meet these business needs,” said chief executive officer Ahmad Azhar Yahya.

“Depending on user requirements, the VPC can act as a secondary data centre for organisations which may already have existing IT infrastructure at their premise.

“[It] also complements VADS’ existing cloud offering and as an integrated managed services provider, the VPC will enable VADS to provide value-added services which in turn will enhance our customers’ experience,” he added.

The deployment will also include Backup-as-a-Service and Disaster Recovery-as-a-Service to ensure data protection and business continuity, VADS said.

“IBM has a proven record of successful partnerships with communications service providers globally and we are keen to replicate this success with VADS,” said IBM Malaysia managing director Paul Moung.

“We are excited to work with VADS to develop this robust cloud infrastructure and create superior service experience for our clients. We envision tremendous cloud opportunity in Malaysia and both VADS and IBM are expected to benefit from this partnership,” he added.

IBM’s cloud technologies will underpin the new offering from VADS, making it enterprise-grade in terms of reliability, scalability, and security. VADS will use IBM’s SmartCloud orchestrators, Tivoli Netcool configuration manager, and PureFlex systems in developing the VPC.
