Ron Goh to lead VMware’s Asean opsVIRTUALISATION and cloud company VMware Inc has announced the appointment of IT industry veteran Ron Goh (pic) as its vice president and general manager for the Asean region.

He succeeds Jon Robertson who takes on the role of vice president and general manager in Japan.

With over 30 years of experience, Goh will focus on driving VMware’s overall corporate direction to further accelerate and extend the company’s presence in the region, VMware said in a statement.

In this role, he will spearhead strategic planning, business development, sales and channels, and alignment of key functions including services, finance and marketing.

“Ron’s [Goh] wealth of Asean knowledge and sales experience makes him the ideal choice of leader to build on the extraordinary performance so far demonstrated by the VMware team in this vibrant part of the APJ region,” said Sanjay Mirchandani, senior vice president and general manager, Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ), VMware.

“His appointment comes as we enter exciting new market sectors – made possible by VMware’s vision of IT-as-a-Service – and engage in an increasingly competitive environment,” he added.

Prior to joining VMware in 2014, Goh was the senior vice president, Systems Oracle Asia Pacific, responsible for driving the business and product management strategy and sales of its server and storage portfolio across the region. During his time at Oracle, he also served as vice president of systems sales, Asean.

Goh has also held various senior management roles at EMC, including corporate vice president for Strategic Accounts and Global Alliances across Asia Pacific and Japan, as well as president for EMC South Asia Region for over six years.

“The Asean region is burgeoning with opportunities with governments looking at building information and communications technology infrastructure, and the marketplace looking to develop and further maximise returns on IT infrastructure in support of today’s mobile workforce,” said Goh.

“I am excited with the opportunity to lead the team in furthering the business, enabling both our customers and partners to leverage technology and take their business to the next level,” he added.
